Webinar Attendee: Medieval Music of Women
$ 15.00

Eya’s director Allison Mondel leads this interactive webinar which explores the legacy of music composed by medieval women, featuring live musical examples by the members of Eya, and followed by a Q&A.

Our understanding and perception of the contribution of women in the field of medieval music is ever-expanding. Beyond the composer record, we are able to glean important information, and raise relevant questions, about the roles that women played in the development, performance, and patronage of music. Who were these women? How did they cultivate their musical development? What did they hear? What did they compose? What did they perform?
We will undertake a survey of medieval music written by and/or for women, and delve into the rich tapestry of society and culture (including letters, religion, locality, and relative social class) that informed the creative output of women in the Middle Ages.
We will also explore our particular role as modern performers and how we have the capacity to transform the ways in which medieval women’s voices — and our own — are represented and received in the larger spectrum of early music.
